Statistics & Econometric Analyses
Cedar
Associates LLC conducts statistical and econometric
analyses of retrospective databases, clinical trial
data, and administrative claims data. Our staff has
experience programming in SAS, STATA, S-Plus,
Mathematica, and R-statistical language. Our analyses
have been published in peer-reviewed journals, submitted
to FDA, and submitted to reimbursement agencies (CMS, UK
NICE). Having worked on more than 100 clinical trials,
we have experience with survival models, ANOVA models,
multivariate regression (Cox, GLM, GEE, fixed and random
effect models, logistic), time series, and Bayesian
methods and forecasting. We also emphasize clarity in
our preparation using state-of-the-art graphics and
presentation styles. We also have extensive experience
in data cleaning and management.
Current and
Recent Projects
Relationship between Antiretroviral Prescribing
Patterns and Treatment Guidelines in Treatment-Naïve,
HIV-1 Infected U.S. Veterans: 1992-2004
We evaluated ARV prescribing
patterns among ARV treatment-naïve veterans who
were receiving care within the U.S. Department of
Veterans Affairs (VA) from 1992 thru 2004 in comparison to evolving
adult HIV-1 treatment guidelines. ARV data were
analyzed using the US Department of Veterans Affairs
immunological case registry (ICR), which contains
demographic and clinical data from VA clinical records.
The results of this project are to published soon in
JAIDS.
Forecasting Visual Acuity in Patients with Clinical
Significant Macular Edema.
Cedar undertook a secondary analysis of the largest
randomized controlled trial of eye diseases, the Early
Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS),
provided to us by the National Eye Institute of the NIH.
We assessed using multivariate regression and
time-series models the predictors of worsening visual
acuity among patients with clinical significant macular
edema. This study is intended to inform FDA
deliberations concerning optimal endpoints of randomized
trials for this condition.
Safety and Efficacy of Treatments of Diabetic Macular
Edema
Cedar was asked to reanalyze the results of a randomized
controlled trial, the results of which have been
published, to assist FDA in better understanding
implications of different clinical endpoints of
randomized trials for this condition. Our analyses
involved using extensive exploratory graphical methods
and analyses of trends to reveal the most reliable and
credible markers of disease progression.
Forecasting Numbers of Enrollees and Costs of HRSA’s
AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP)
Dr. Hornberger was the Principal Investigator of a
project to assess trends in the number of enrollees and
costs of the Health Resources and Services
Administration’s ADAP. He used time-series analyses to
derive these forecasted estimates. The findings were
used by HRSA and other government agencies to inform the
recent reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act.
